A Helping Hand to a Child with Leukemia
Liuliu was conceived in order to help save his elder brother, who was diagnosed with leukemia. However, his brother passed away before Liuliu was even born, and to make things worse, Liuliu was also diagnosed with leukemia. At the Häagen-Dazs Valentine's Day event, General Mills donated RMB 100,000 to help pay for Liuliu's bone marrow transplant.
Extending Care and Love to Local Communities
General Mills has three state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in China, located in Shanghai, Nanjing and Guangzhou.
They have been making contributions to the local communities by actively engaging in activities for public welfare, such as environmental protection, caring for the elderly, orphans and others.
In Shanghai, we brought Wanchai Ferry dumplings to Shanghai's No. 1 Residential Home for the Elderly to celebrate the Chinese New Year with the elderly who have lost their families.
Our employees in Nanjing have volunteered to clean up the garbage at the Zijin Mountain, a well-known scenic spot there. Some of them also brought their children to participate in order to help them build awareness of environmental protection.
Employees in Guangzhou visited a home for the elderly, an orphanage and a kindergarten, sending presents and warm care to the seniors and orphans.
Helping the Handicapped to Make a Living on their Own
Today, there are more than 83 million people with physical disabilities in China. It’s important to promote the employment of the handicapped.
Working with Pudong Labor Service Center for the Disabled, General Mills has hired disabled employees to work in our plant in Shanghai.
They work on the day shift, and receive support from co-workers, who offer specific care and help.
Now, these disabled employees can support themselves, enhancing not only their lives, but the lives of their families.
