Nourishing communities, nourishing the future
We want to be builders, givers and sustainers. We want to make our world and our community better places in which to live and grow.
Including General Mills Foundation grants, product donations and strategic philanthropy, General Mills has long committed 5 percent of its pre-tax profits to charity programs around the world. In fiscal 2009, that amounted to nearly USD$91 million.
Our leadership in corporate giving has been recognized by BusinessWeek magazine, which named us as one of the "most-generous corporate donors."
In China, General Mills also commits to be a responsible corporate citizen.
We are actively engaged in philanthropy programs, including education, fresh water supply, disaster relief, environmental protection, care for disadvantaged groups and support for new rural areas development.
Among our efforts:
Donations to China Women's Development Foundation to build water cellars to provide fresh water in northwestern China in 2008 and 2009.
Establishment of "Moon Fund" to promote and award environmental protection and sustainable development in Greater China.
Donations to Shanghai Charity Foundation to set up “Ruijin - Häagen-Dazs Breast Cancer Aid Fund” to save lives.
The sale of Loving Bears - the Loving Ambassador of General Mills - in Häagen-Dazs shops to fund local charity programs.
Donation of RMB 5 million in cash and products to aid earthquake-affected areas in 2008.
Grants to the Chinese Red Cross to build 100 libraries for primary schools in poor areas.
Support for poverty alleviation in rural areas in Heilongjiang and Sichuan by the establishment of General Mills corn farm and Green Giant mushroom base.
